Recycling Site Remiks, Norway

Recycling Site Remiks, Norway

Modulo Recycle

Modulo was selected for the new environmental park in Tromsø. Tromsø’s population consists of approx. 71,500 registered residents. Including students, there are approximately 75,000 people in the municipality. There are approx. 29,000 households, each of whom receives a waste card with 6 entrees per. year. Remiks receives approx. 10,000 tonnes of waste a year. As it is growing Remiks there is a need to expand existing recycling sites. Tromsø’s former recycling facility was closed at the end of 2013. The site was old and worn out and had insufficient capacity. During the summer it was very common that there were long waiting lines and full containers. Throughout the winter 2013/2014, Remiks uses its recycling facility at the Ringvegen headquarters for both business and private customers. However, this site did not have the capacity to handle Tromsø’s waste during the summer period, and a new solution, therefore, was necessary. Remiks has looked at a number of alternative sites and site solutions and it was decided to go with a site location which ultimately could happen to be a temporary site. The site is located in the current ‘Miljøparken’, where Remiks already has other activities.

The Modulo site was implemented in two phases; This to keep it open while under construction as well as to spread costs over 2 years. Remiks also noticed this allowed them to gain more experience and to make adjustments as needed. During the first phase a100 modules Modulo solution was installed with a module height of 2.4 m facilitating 12 bins. The ramps are located at each end of the solution, and the traffic is unidirectional. The plan is to adapt the area under the modules various purposes, such as storage of recyclables, tools, etc. The next phase included expansion with 80 modules in 2015 to make it longer and wider and facilitating > 20 different recyclables fractions. In addition, the site facilitates receiving garden waste, construction waste, and included containers that can be closed to protect the more valuable recyclables.

We have only received positive feedback from both employees and users!

We wanted a solution with great flexibility. During the initial phase, we were contacted by Modulo Concrete, and after hearing more about their modular solution, we quickly became convinced that this was the right solution for us.
It was very crucial for us to be able to establish a new and user-friendly recycling space in a relatively short period of time. For this site, from signing the agreement to installation completed it took just 12 weeks!
Furthermore, it was very crucial for us to get a very flexible solution, as we are planning to expand over the coming few years. The flexibility of this Modulo system makes it easier to allocate/spread costs over your years. Eg. we are not obliged to immediately do electrical work, water, and sewer. This can be done on an as-needed way. Last but not least, the price also was very important making up our minds: another good reason for choosing Modulo.

It is very easy to operate the recycling facility, both for users and for employees. It is easy to operate and guide users, and there is a good overview of the entire area.

One of the first days we were actually contacted by the employees at the square, which experienced a problem that the users did not want to leave the recycling center! After they were done dropping off the recyclables they tended to stay, talking, wandering around, and praising the place.

So on our end, and based on the experience we have so far, we can safely recommend a Modulo Concrete solution to others wishing to establish a new recycle space. “

Recycling Station

Arden, Danmark

Modulo Recycle

Description

A solution that matches the needs

Joint Combustion I / S, which includes to operate recycling sites for Mariagerfjord Municipality, chose to establish a completely new recycling site in Arden.

The municipality already had an existing older facility in Rostrup at the time, but as it was located in a protected nature area, and unfortunately it was not possible to modernize / improve it.

It was therefore decided to build the new recycling site on Myhlenbergvej in Arden, and this project included all the improvements that came from the experience of the similar projects.

This time the lower platform is a combination of lower and higher with higher Modulo elements, which serve as a workshop and garage for vehicles. The lower modules allow high containers to be used as railing. The low modules make it easier for the residents to shovel their concrete waste and rubble into the bins.

On top of the tall modules there is an office, lunch room, customer washroom and facilities that allow the staff to change.

Citizens have been very happy and satisfied with the new solution. It has become easy to get rid of its waste and recyclables

Better conditions for both employees and citizens

With the new solution it has become easy and manageable for the citizens to get rid of their waste. When they stand on the platform, they have an overview – and can review all the fractions.

The employees at the square have also had a good overview. With the new solution, they have become closer to the citizen, and can thus correct fault sorting before the waste smokes in the container.

Nowadays, you are thinking of a lot of working conditions for employees. This space not only provides employees with proper conditions – but also the citizens have improved conditions when they come to sort their waste. Now they can throw the waste into the containers, and not as before, upon the containers

We are very proud of our cooperation with Modulo concrete. They have been extremely capable and were able to adapt many of their solutions to our needs.

There is no doubt that we have been “test cloth” in the development of their solutions, which we are actually quite happy with!

Because of this we have been able to keep up with the process and they were able to adapt the way it meets our needs.

Ludvika Sweden

Modulo Recycle

Description

The world’s largest modular recycling site

Ludvika municipality decided in 2015 to upgrade their existing recycling site Björnhyttan to a larger and more modern recycling site. Bjornhyttan has approx. 26,000 citizens. Modulo supplied and installed a 208 blocks modular solution. This is the biggest modular solution to date in both the Nordic region and the rest of the world.. The Modulo system is installed on Björnhyttans existing asphalt pad. The solution does not require foundation under the modules. The solution consists of 184 platform and 24 ramp modules. The platform accomodates is 22 bins. The modules are at a height of 7.87 ft, so the space under the deck can be fully utilized. Unlike traditional elevated deck solutions, the Modulo modular platform can be utilized 200%.: on top of the deck as well as under the deck.

About Ludvika

Ludvika municipality is located in Dalarna County. The County is growing and today has approx. 26,000 residents. Ludvika city is the third largest city in Dalarna, and has approx. 14,500 residents. Waste and recycling is handled by Björnhyttan waste center.

Additional accessories are provided:

  • Edge beams: The edge beams are on the outside of the module solution as a safety.
  • Container guiding rails to protect the concrete modules from bin strikes
  • Galvanized railings
  • Galvanized doors
  • Signs
  • Heat traced ramps

Modulo concrete is a modular and future-proof solution. The existing solution can be expanded very easily and simply with new modules and thus accomodating additional fractions.

The old recycling site was far too small, and Modulo was clearly the best option when we noticed that the it could be easily installed at the existing pad. The system does not require footings

We are really excited about the new recycling facility. No queuing anymore, improved logistics, and the working environment for our employees is now top – everything is happening at a calmer pace. ” And happy residents as well.

Residential Waste Recycling & Drop Off Center

Modulo Paderborn

Modulo Recycle
Modulo recently completed its new residential and small businesses drop off solution/ recycling center  for Paderborn Germany. Immediately after installation, residents started to use the facility. Modulo was involved from start to finish as well as maintenance. Modulo provided consultancy services including initial design, final design production, installation and maintenance services.

The initial design services included a number of alternative solutions. All parties involved, including City Staff,  Architect, and Modulo worked closely together in order to meet timelines.
The installation of the Modulo system ( within 5 days) allowed the Contractor to meet his targets easily. As a result , the project was executed on time and on budget.
The city officials very much wanted to integrate the Modulo solution with existing on site activities, which have continued to increase as a result of continuing changing management practices as well as continuing changes in environmental regulations, requiring more and more recyclable materials to be received and handled.
The conventional site allowed only for a reduced, fixed number of activities/ recyclable materials, resulting in queuing, lengthy waiting times for the residents and small businesses.

Modular Thinking

Modulo Recycle

Think of the Modulo-Beton system as a 3D jigsaw puzzle of concrete sections that slot together to form a range of potential recycling/civic amenity site solutions. the advantages? Malcom bates went to Holland to find some first-hand; he came back with a significant list. Item one: save loads of time:save pots of money…

Regular readers of MVO will already know of my local “tidy tip” experience and my thoughts on the decision to close it while it was remodelled.

Community Repaint Scheme

Paint tins should never be thrown out with regular rubbish. Unless the tins are empty or contain only solid paint. Liquid paint can cause problems when it mixes with other rubbish and can spill onto roads.

The Community Repaint Scheme offers a solution. Bring your old paint tins to Newark HWRC, which has a permanent facility for repaint, where they will be sorted to see what can be reused. The paint will then be donated to a charity or community group for re use.

Community Waste Management & Recycling Center

Voluntary groups can get paint for free through this scheme once they have registered Community Repaint Scheme (PDF File, 55kb)

Tins which can’t be used are sent for specialist treatment and the metal or plastic containers are recycled where possible.

Paint Open Evenings

Free reusable paint tins are on offer at special monthly open evening. The tins are available to Nottinghamshire residents only. Normal permitting requirements apply if you use a van, pick-up or car-towed trailer.

Tins on offer are at least half full and have been checked by site staff. Colour and type can not be guaranteed but it is all free of charge. There is no limit to how many tins can be taken but a ‘fair share’ policy may come into effect when the dates are fully booked.

Solid Waste Management & Recycling Center

Modulo Solid Waste and Recycling

Modulo Recycle

The waste and recycling depot is a fixture of Canadian waste management, used for both non-hazardous and hazardous waste streams, They continue to evolve, from a few bins scattered around a muddy yard, to more organized, above grade, build facilities. As we start moving towards a more circular economy, it is important that their design is given considerable, easy to use, and importantly, will attract residents and businesses for return visits.
