Hazardous Waste Transfer Station

Drop off center in France

Modulo Recycle
Two transfer stations installed by Modulo within 4 days and being used already. Both structures are located under the A86 motorway for optimized space use. Modulo was the preferred solution because it could be installed in a very short time as wells because of the special regulatory framework underneath the Highway. Owned by the National Authorities, and not by Local Authorities, fixed structures were not allowed.  The Local Community is leasing the area for the drop off center.

Modulo Recycle

Description

The world’s largest modular recycling site

Ludvika municipality decided in 2015 to upgrade their existing recycling site Björnhyttan to a larger and more modern recycling site. Bjornhyttan has approx. 26,000 citizens. Modulo supplied and installed a 208 blocks modular solution. This is the biggest modular solution to date in both the Nordic region and the rest of the world.. The Modulo system is installed on Björnhyttans existing asphalt pad. The solution does not require foundation under the modules. The solution consists of 184 platform and 24 ramp modules. The platform accomodates is 22 bins. The modules are at a height of 7.87 ft, so the space under the deck can be fully utilized. Unlike traditional elevated deck solutions, the Modulo modular platform can be utilized 200%.: on top of the deck as well as under the deck.

About Ludvika

Ludvika municipality is located in Dalarna County. The County is growing and today has approx. 26,000 residents. Ludvika city is the third largest city in Dalarna, and has approx. 14,500 residents. Waste and recycling is handled by Björnhyttan waste center.

Additional accessories are provided:

  • Edge beams: The edge beams are on the outside of the module solution as a safety.
  • Container guiding rails to protect the concrete modules from bin strikes
  • Galvanized railings
  • Galvanized doors
  • Signs
  • Heat traced ramps

Modulo concrete is a modular and future-proof solution. The existing solution can be expanded very easily and simply with new modules and thus accomodating additional fractions.

The old recycling site was far too small, and Modulo was clearly the best option when we noticed that the it could be easily installed at the existing pad. The system does not require footings

We are really excited about the new recycling facility. No queuing anymore, improved logistics, and the working environment for our employees is now top – everything is happening at a calmer pace. ” And happy residents as well.

Modular Thinking

Modulo Recycle

Think of the Modulo-Beton system as a 3D jigsaw puzzle of concrete sections that slot together to form a range of potential recycling/civic amenity site solutions. the advantages? Malcom bates went to Holland to find some first-hand; he came back with a significant list. Item one: save loads of time:save pots of money…

Regular readers of MVO will already know of my local “tidy tip” experience and my thoughts on the decision to close it while it was remodelled.

NSW Illegal Dumping Strategy 2014–16

Modulo Recycle

1 Introduction

1.1 An integrated approach

Combating illegal dumping is a key priority for the NSW Government and local communities.

NSW 2021: A plan to make NSW number one sets a target to reduce the incidence of large- scale (greater than 200 cubic metres) illegal dumping in Sydney, the Illawarra, Hunter and Central Coast by 30 per cent by 2016.

Illegal dumping is an environmental crime and can cause serious environmental pollution, pose a risk to human health, and impact local amenities and community pride. Cleaning up illegally dumped material is also a significant cost for local communities, councils and public land managers.

For the first time, NSW has a state-wide strategy, the NSW Illegal Dumping Strategy 2014–16 (the Strategy), designed to deliver an integrated approach to combat illegal dumping. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is charged with leading the work to deliver the Strategy, coordinating efforts of the many stakeholders working to combat illegal dumping, and managing the funding for that work.

The Strategy uses a multifaceted approach to combat illegal dumping. As part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, the NSW Government has allocated $58 million over five years to support initiatives across NSW, including a pilot program to trial innovative approaches to assist home renovators to dispose of small, non-commercial quantities of asbestos. The fund will also be used to enhance the EPA’s ability to detect and prosecute illegal waste operators.

1.2 Our vision

The NSW Government’s vision is to protect local environments from pollution by reducing the incidence of illegal dumping in our community.

To achieve this vision the Government aims to:

  • reduce the incidence of illegal dumping
  • reduce the social, environmental, health and financial impact of illegal dumping.

Based on feedback received from the consultation for the Strategy and the experience of the EPA, local councils and public land managers, and, six focus areas have been identified:

  1. Partnerships – build local community partnerships
  2. Building an evidence base
  3. Strategic enforcement – ramp-up waste compliance and enforcement
  4. Capacity building – help build expertise
  5. Education – spread the word
  6. Community engagement – motivate local communities.

The EPA will work closely with partners to deliver projects and results in these areas. Table 1 sets out the projects that will be run under each of these focus areas.

1.3 Partnerships

Partnerships are essential in delivering this strategy and local government, waste management groups, industry and community all have a significant role to play. The EPA will take the lead in fostering and maintaining these partnerships.

Recycling Centre Permits

Household Waste Recycling Centre permits are issued to help stop illegal disposal of trade waste along with other issues. The scheme is designed to reduce congestion, improve health and safety and increase recycling.

Permits are available free of charge for Nottinghamshire households wishing to deposit household waste and small amounts of construction waste from their own home.

Residents wishing to use a company van, pick-up or a company car with a trailer will be required to provide a copy of their company insurance and a company letter (as evidence that you are permitted to use the vehicle for personal use) and a copy of a utility bill dated within the last six months (as evidence of residency).

You can now apply for a van, pick-up or trailer permit online. If you do not have internet access, you can call the Customer Service Centre or visit the Customer Service Points where an advisor will use the online service to input your details on your behalf.

Community Repaint Scheme

Paint tins should never be thrown out with regular rubbish. Unless the tins are empty or contain only solid paint. Liquid paint can cause problems when it mixes with other rubbish and can spill onto roads.

The Community Repaint Scheme offers a solution. Bring your old paint tins to Newark HWRC, which has a permanent facility for repaint, where they will be sorted to see what can be reused. The paint will then be donated to a charity or community group for re use.

Community Waste Management & Recycling Center

Voluntary groups can get paint for free through this scheme once they have registered Community Repaint Scheme (PDF File, 55kb)

Tins which can’t be used are sent for specialist treatment and the metal or plastic containers are recycled where possible.

Paint Open Evenings

Free reusable paint tins are on offer at special monthly open evening. The tins are available to Nottinghamshire residents only. Normal permitting requirements apply if you use a van, pick-up or car-towed trailer.

Tins on offer are at least half full and have been checked by site staff. Colour and type can not be guaranteed but it is all free of charge. There is no limit to how many tins can be taken but a ‘fair share’ policy may come into effect when the dates are fully booked.
