GHD was retained by Unico Inc. in 2016 as Owner’s Engineer to provide professional services for the Sewer by Law Compliance Program Plan Approval. Unico’s vegetable oil packaging plant located in Concord, ON produces wastewater with high concertation of oil and grease. Wastewater production rate is about 700 m3/d. GHD evaluated alternative treatment system such as passive baffle interceptor, inclined baffle interceptor and produced a conceptual design for the wastewater treatment system. GHD later on designed a passive baffle interceptor and pH adjustment system, A triple basin passive interceptor baffle system with a capacity of 12,500 litre (3300 gallon) was built underground to manage the flows during production hours. A chemical dosing system for pH adjustment was installed in a Modulo Solution. The Modulo houses pH dosing system and the chemical totes, it also included inbuilt containment system and the building is heated. GHD and Modulo helped the client to comply the Sewer By-Law discharge requirement and save money on surcharges.
